Summary

THE SPATIAL DISTRIBUTION OF A DOUBLE-GAP INHOMOGENEOUS STATE IN SUPERCONDUCTING TIN FILMS IS STUDIED EXPERIMENTALLY BY EMPLOYING SEVERAL DETECTORS. IT IS FOUND THAT APPEARANCE OF THE INHOMOGENEOUS STATE DEPENDS ON HOW THE CURRENT IS FED INTO THE GENERATOR. THE SPATIAL STRUCTURE OF THE INHOMOGENEOUS STATE AND ALSO THE INSTABILITY ARE VERY SENSITIVE TO WEAK MAGNETIC FIELDS. INSTABILITY IS OBSERVED ONLY FOR TUNNEL JUNCTIONS WHOSE SIZES EXCEED CONSIDERABLY THE JOSEPHSON MAGNETIC FIELD PENETRATION DEPTH.
