Melting characteristics of fine particle ice slurry at the return bend of flow path.

Summary

An experimental study has been carried out to investigate both the flow and the heat transfer characteristics of ice slurry flow in a return bend with rectangular cross section being heated by its convex or concave wall. In the study, heat transfer coefficient at the heated wall was determined and ice packing factor distribution in a flow path was observed in detail with a mixture of fine ice particles and ethylene-glycol aqueous solution as a test ice slurry. The most important result of the study was that the heat transfer characteristics on the curved wall of the flow channel were markedly affected by the latent heat of ice particles of the ice slurry.
