Proceedings of the third IIR Workshop on Ice Slurries.

Date: 2001.05.16 / 2001.05.18

Location: Horw, Switzerland

Summary

These proceedings contain 26 papers of this IIR workshop, held in Horw/Lucerne, Switzerland, on May 16-18, 2001. The main purpose of the Working Party on Ice Slurries is to provide an international platform for the exchange of the experiences made in this challenging field of technology and to discuss the results of the work performed during the last year. Extract from the table of contents: thermophysical and thermodynamic properties, measurement methods (using property values of water solutions and ice to estimate ice concentration and enthalpy values; detection of the freezing point; ice fraction error calculation in ice slurries); fluid dynamics, heat transfer; ice generation and storage (storage and mixing in tanks; experiments on fluidised bed ice slurry production; obtaining homogeneously dispersed ice crystals by high-pressure-shift freezing; numerical investigation of ice-slurry flow and heat transfer in a scraped ice generator and a storage tank); components; applications and practical experience (ice slurry pilot and demonstration system for food refrigeration in supermarkets; direct expansion and indirect refrigeration with ice slurry: comparison in supermarkets; alternative routes to indirect refrigeration systems; applications on board Dutch cutters and super trawlers).
