THE ARTICLE REFERS TO EXPERIMENTS ON MELTING ICE IN WATER AGITATED BY A GAS STREAM. THE RESULTS INDICATE THAT A TURBULENT LAYER IS FORMED AT THE MELTING SURFACE AT LOWER REYNOLDS NUMBERS THAN EXPECTED. MELTING RATES WERE HIGHER THEREFORE THAN PREDICTED. D.W.H.
