Summary

THE OBJECT OF MICROPROCESSOR CONTROL IS TO LOWER THE RUNNING COST OF A PLANT. THE PLANTS DESCRIBED HAVE TWO EVAPORATION TEMPERATURES AND ONE INTERSTAGE TEMPERATURE FOR A MULTITUDE OF AMMONIA COMPRESSORS. SOME DUTIES CAN BE PERFORMED IN SINGLE STAGE IN WINTER. SOME DUTIES CAN BE SACRIFICED TEMPORARILY TO SHED LOAD AT TIMES OF PEAK ELECTRICITY DEMAND. THE MICROPROCESSORS WERE SELECTED TO OPTIMISE ENERGY AND COMPRESSOR RUNNING TIME TO MATCH THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS. THE AUTHORS DISCUSS THE SENSING EQUIPMENT, STRESSING THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPATIBILITY WITH THE MICROPROCESSOR AND POSSIBLETURBULENCE IN THE SIGNAL. D.W.H.
