Summary
A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE AIR CONDITIONING REQUIREMENTS FOR ARMOURED FIGHTING VEHICLES. THE AIR CONDITIONER HAS TO BE A VERY FLEXIBLE SYSTEM. IN ADDITION TO THE SOLAR HEAT LOAD PENETRATING INTO THE VEHICLE, BODY HEAT FROM THE CREWMEN AND RADIO AND COMPUTING EQUIPMENT ADD ANOTHER 2 TO 3 KILOWATTS TO THE COOLING LOAD, SUCH THAT THE CAPACITY OF THE CONDITIONER HAS TO BE BETWEEN 6 TO 10 KILOWATTS. THE AIR FILTRATION SYSTEM OF THE COOLING UNIT HAS TO BE VERY REFINED SINCE THE VEHICLE CREW HAVE TO BE SEALED OFF FROM THE OUTSIDE WORLD IN THE EVENT OF BIOLOGICAL, NUCLEAR OR CHEMICAL WARFARE CONDITIONS.
