DETERMINATION OF THE FREEZING POINT DEPRESSION OF MILK IS AN INTERNATIONALLY USED TEST TODETERMINE WHETHER MILK IS FREE FROM EXTRANEOUS WATER. WHEN FREEZING POINT DEPRESSION IS HIGHER THAN -0.535 K THE MILK SUPPLY IS ASSUMED TO BE FREE FROM EXTRANEOUS WATER. WHEN FREEZING POINT DEPRESSION IS NOT HIGHER THAN -0.525 K IT IS ASSUMED THAT EXTRANEOUS WATER IS PRESENT. INTERPRETATION OF THESE RESULTS IS DISCUSSED. (DAIRY SCI.
