Summary

The application of hydrocarbons in the milk cooling has been quite successful. In laboratory, an improvement on energy consumption of 6.7% was gained. The daily practice at a test-farm resulted in an improvement of 3.6%. Hazard analyses of the installation shows there is no objection to use in this way combustible refrigerants at dairy farms. An advantage of this system is that the existing installation needs only a very few adaptations. A producer of milk tanks constructs some prototypes.
