Modelling of straight and coiled capillary tube used in vapour compression refrigeration system.
Author(s) : KUMAR DABAS J.
Summary
In the design of a vapour compression refrigeration system, accurate sizing of capillary tube is an important factor in optimizing performance. Experiments were conducted on the experimental set-up of a vapour compression refrigeration system by varying the coiled capillary tube length and refrigerant charge in the system. A computer simulation model based on the analytical solution was developed for prediction of mass flow rate through straight capillary tube. Empirical solutions for the straight and coiled capillary tube, picked up from the literature were also tried. The prediction models have been validated by comparison with experimental data. The computer simulation model developed in C++ can be easily used in the real time transient simulation model of complete refrigeration system for all types of conditions at the inlet of capillary tube. However, for the sub-cooled condition of refrigerant at the inlet, empirical solution also provides satisfying results.
