Summary
The carbon dioxide/acetone mixture has been proposed as an interesting working fluid for resorption refrigeration systems. To study the performance and operating conditions of an application of interest, it is necessary to know some thermodynamic properties of the mixture, such as vapor-liquid equilibrium, excess enthalpy, and density. Experimental data and models for this mixture can be found in the literature, but they are limited in the temperature and composition ranges, and none of them is capable of estimating suitably the properties in the wide ranges of temperature necessary in this application (from 283.15 K to 393.15 K). In this study, vapor-liquid equilibrium, density, and enthalpy data of carbon dioxide/acetone mixture, reported for different temperature ranges, have been correlated using two equations of state, Peng-Robinson, and Soave-Redlich-Kwong, to evaluate which one is more suitable for the working conditions of interest. Previous screening of the data has been carried out to reject the no-consistent data. Finally, simple correlations for vapor pressure and density obtained from the estimated data by the model are proposed.
