ALTHOUGH THE ADVANTAGES OF THE HEAT PUMP, FROM A THERMODYNAMIC POINT OF VIEW, WAS RECOGNISED MANY YEARS AGO, ITS DEVELOPMENT AS AN INDUSTRIAL PRODUCT DID NOT REALLY START IN EUROPE UNTIL 1973. IT IS THEREFORE NOT SURPRISING THAT -WITH FEW EXCEPTIONS -WE DO NOT FIND THE MATURE DESIGNS AND PRODUCTS WE ARE USED TO. NEW IDEAS FOR BOTH SYSTEM AND COMPONENT DESIGN ARE MUSHROOMING, AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO TELL WHICH ARE GOING TO SURVIVE AND WHICH WILL BE WEEDED OUT IN THE COMPETITION.
