Summary
Polymeric films with different gas permeabilities are presently employed for modified atmosphere packaging. However, an efficient, safe and cost-effective modified atmosphere packaging system to deliver safe and wholesome products of good quality is yet to be developed. The review critically analyses these aspects to establish the state of the art of this vitally important mode of extending the storage life of fruits and vegetables.
