Summary

Various methods of grain storage under controlled atmosphere in the USA, Australia and Europe are reviewed. Some recent results of trial work in the UK are given, in particular lethal atmospheres of gaseous mixtures of O2 and CO2 at 10 and 15 deg C, and also concentrations of CO2 in air from 40 to 100% at the same temperatures. Times for complete kill of adult beetles of various species are also given. Some details are given of purging silos with CO2 or burner gas together with results from trials with typical farm bins.
