Summary

Organic Phase Change Materials have been proved to be one of the most desirables types of Phase Change Materials, PCMs, for cold Thermal Energy Storage due to its chemical stability, congruent melting and low supercooling. Otherwise, their low thermal conductivity is an important limitation, which encourage the use of nanoadditives to enhance their thermal capabilities. Thus, MgO nanoparticles dispersed into n-tetradecane have been proposed as new Nano-enhanced Phase Change Material, NePCM, in this work. Firstly, MgO nanoparticles and the paraffin used as base material were characterized by using electron microscopy techniques and through its thermophysical profile, respectively. Then, n-tetradecane-based NePCMs were designed and their stability along several days were analysed. Finally, thermal behaviour of proposed new NePCMs was experimentally determined and discussed through of the temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity and the nanoparticle concentration influence.
