Summary

Given the expected decline in the production of natural gas, the European countries will be increasingly dependent on imports in the future. While Europe covered 45% of its natural-gas needs in 2006 by importing, the IEA forecasts that these imports will rise to 69% by 2030, mainly from Russia and Algeria but also from West Africa, the former USSR, the Middle East and Latin America.
