Summary
Ammonia causes many problems both in and outside the broiler house. Experiments in the Netherlands have led to the development of a new concept in poultry housing. With the ventilated floor system, it has become possible to reduce ammonia production by 90%. The concept consists of constantly forcing air through the litter on the elevated floor. This floor is situated 40 centimeters above the original floor.
