Author(s) : HOCHHAUS K. H.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The article reviews the characteristics of refrigerated ships designed for long-distance transport of fruits, in particular bananas. Increasing speed is the trend, particularly among the largest ships (18-23 knots). Engine output has been increasing and fuel prices falling since 1978. The control of energy on the ship (both for propulsion and for lowering and maintaining temperatures) is analysed.
