Summary
The paper presents the basic principles of absorption cycles, mainly with the ammonia/water working pair. Technical and economic comparisons are made with compression systems. The absorption cycle and its components are fully described and a range of high capacity units is presented along with their main data. Applications in food industry, freeze-drying, chemical industry and cogeneration, are investigated.
