Summary

In this paper a hollow fibre membrane-type generator has been introduced with a trial to be applied into the vapour absorption refrigeration system (VARs). Since a hydrophobic hollow fibre membrane allows the passage of refrigeration vapour and retains LiBr solution, it could substitute for the conventional generator of VARs not only to be scaled-down and weigh-lighted, but also not to be influenced by vibration and sloping road while driving. This study presents a parametric steady-state simulation model to look into a novel LiBr-water single effect absorption cooling cycle combined with a hollow fibre membrane-type generator. The numerical model is simulated based on the heat balance coupled with the mass transfer for the vacuum membrane distillation, and mass and energy balance for a whole novel absorption cycle. The simulation results are utilized to examine the effects of various working conditions on the cooling capacity and the Coefficient of Performance (COP).
