THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES THE OPERATION AND COMPONENTS OF A NEW TYPE OF AIR-WATER HEAT PUMP WITH A NATURAL CONVECTION PLATE EXCHANGER TAKING ADVANTAGE OF NATURAL CONDITIONS. THE FIRST RESULTS OF A STUDY IN IRELAND SHOW THAT UNDER GIVEN CONDITIONS THE SYSTEM USES 23% LESS POWER THAN A CONVENTIONAL AIR-WATER HEAT PUMP. THE HIGH COP THAT CAN BE OBTAINED WITH THIS SYSTEM, EVEN FOR LOW EXTERNAL TEMPERATURES, AND ITS ADVANTAGES, ARE DISCUSSED. R.R.
