Numerical analysis of thermal environment in a radiant floor cooling room.

Author(s) : REN Y., LI D., ZHANG Y.

Summary

This study aims at developing a radiant floor cooling system using the existing radiant floor heating system. To evaluate the performance of the system, the zero-equation turbulence model with wall function near solid boundaries is adopted to simulate airflow distribution using CFD in an office room. Unlike all-air cooling system, the radiant floor cooling system removes the cooling load by convection and radiation. To prevent the condensation on the cooling floor surface in hot and humid weather, radiant floor cooling integrated with displacement ventilation system was proposed as an alternative approach. The ventilator brings conditioned fresh air to prevent condensation on the cooling floor surface, meeting the minimum requirement for indoor air quality and remove the latent cooling load. To evaluate the performance of the hybrid system, the thermal environment of the model room was simulated using CFD. Installing a human model in the office, the characteristics of heat transportation from human were also analyzed. The result shows that the hybrid system can provide comfortable and economical environment in hot and humid weather.
