Summary

Computer Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis for predicting indoor air environment are increasingly used. Although it is possible to calculate the flow dominating effects of displacement ventilation - natural and mixed convection, wall-bounded flow and free-stream regions - with different two-equation turbulence models, it is still difficult to predict a displacement ventilation system with only one set of parameters for a standard two-equation turbulence model. This article presents an extension of a two-equation turbulence model to predict the air flow for displacement ventilation systems. Firstly, each flow effect is investigated separately. Secondly, CFD-analysis of a test room is compared with full-scale measurements. The modified two-equation turbulence model leads to good agreement of the measurements and the calculations.
