Summary

The existing and mature CFD technology is applied in this paper. Through the simulation of the prototype fan, it's found that there are obvious vortices in the cochlea part of the fan. Two schematic plans are adopted to improve the efficiency of the fan. These vortices can cause high energy loss. At the same time, they increase the noise of the ventilator in the air-conditioning system and affect efficiency of the fan. The first scheme is to increase radius of the cochlea. The second scheme is to change the cochlea into tilted. Some experiments of the velocity of the outlet of the fan also have been carried on which are in order to make some comparisons. It can be found that unsuitable change of the cochlea radius caused more disorder airflow rather than improve the cochlea vortices. So the conclusion is that the key issue is to find the suitable radius of the cochlea in the design of the fan. During the design of tilted cochlea, a satisfying outcome has been obtained.
