Summary

WHEN A CURRENT PASSES PERPENDICULAR TO THE FILAMENTS THE RESISTIVITY BEHAVIOUR REVEALS SOME PECULIARITIES WHICH DEPEND ON THE TEMPERATURE AND MAGNITUDE OF THE CURRENT ; IN PARTICULAR A TWO-STEP TRANSITION TO THE SUPERCONDUCTING STATE OCCURS. AN ANALYSIS OF THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS LEADS TO A MODEL OF TOPOLOGICAL TRANSITIONS OF THE KOSTERLITZ-THOULESS TYPE FOR BULK SYSTEMS. THE NEW TYPES OF TOPOLOGICAL EXCITATIONS OBSERVED ARE MEDIATED BY FINITE CURRENT EFFECTS. A DETAILED CORRELATION IN THE CHARACTERISTIC BEHAVIOUR BETWEEN 2D AND BULK SYSTEMS IS ESTABLISHED.
