Summary

RESISTIVE TRANSITIONS ARE MEASURED IN ORTHORHOMBIC TWINNED YBC O SINGLE CRYSTALS FOR DIFFERENT ORIENTATIONS OF MAGNETIC FIELD. THE RESISTANCE ANISOTROPY OBSERVED MAY BE EXPLAINED IN THE SAME WAY AS THAT INDUCED BY MAGNETIC FIELD IN HIGH TEMPERATURE SUPERCONDUCTING POLYCRYSTALS. IT IS RESULTED FROM THE ANISOTROPY OF CONDUCTIVITY AND FIELD AND ASSOCIATED WITH THE EXISTENCE OF HIGH CONDUCTIVITY CHAINS OF COPPER OXIDE IN ORTHORHOMBIC CRYSTALS. BECAUSE OF ITS SYMMETRY, THEANISOTROPY IN QUESTION CANNOT BE DUE TO THE EFFECT OF TWINNING PLANES OR MAGNETIC FLUX CREEP. THE RESISTANCE ANISOTROPY IN THE BASAL PLANE IS NOT OBSERVED FOR SINGLE CRYSTALS WITH LOW OXYGEN CONTENT IN WHICH THERE ARE NO CHAINS.
