Summary
The paper describes on-line adaptive multivariable control as used to produce cost-effective control for NGL recovery, applied to cryogenic and refrigerated lean oil processes. The technology is based on process simulation of actual plant performance. Inputs from many field variables are used to predict optimal setpoints for control of all manipulated process variables. A feedback trim based on actual versus predicted results is computed and feedforwarded to the regulatory system. Tests on new plants in the USA show good agreement between predicted and measured outputs. D.W.H.
