Summary

HYDRATION, PHASE TRANSITIONS AND VITRIFICATION OF CHOLINE CHLO RIDE SOLUTIONS AS WELL AS THEIR CRYOPROTECTIVE EFFICIENCY WITH RESPECT TO MEMBRANES OF ERYTHROCYTES AND SARCOPLASMIC RETICULUM WERE STUDIED IN A RANGE OF 77 TO 273 K (-196 TO 0 DEG C). DIFFERENTIAL CALORIMETRY, NMR AND EPR SPECTROSCOPY METHODS ALLOWED TO FIND THOSE PHYSICO-CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF CHOLINE CHLORIDE WHICH ARE USUAL FOR TRADITIONAL CRYOPROTECTANTS SUCH AS STABLE LOW TEMPERATURE SOLVATION AND INCLINATION TO VITRIFICATION OF ITS SOLUTIONS. THE POTENTIAL USE OF CHOLINE CHLORIDE FOR LOW TEMPERATURE PRESERVATION OF DIFFERENT MEMBRANE PREPARATIONS IS SHOWN.
