Summary

ENHANCEMENT OF SUBCOOLED CRITICAL HEAT FLUX WITH THE USE OF SINGLE AND MULTIPLE TANGENTIAL INJECTORS PLACED ON A 1.73 CM INTERNAL DIAMETER TUBE IS INVESTIGATED. R113 WAS USED AS THE COOLANT AND THE HEATED LENGTH OF THE TUBE WAS VARIED FROM 8.8 TO 37.1 CM. THE SUPERPOSITION OF SWIRL WAS STUDIED BY USING SINGLE AND DOUBLE INJECTORS AT ONE AXIAL LOCATION AND BY VARYING THE DISTANCE BETWEEN INJECTION LOCATIONS. THE RESULTS SHOW AN ENHANCEMENT OF UP TO 80% IN THE CRITICAL HEAT FLUX. INJECTION SUPERIMPOSED ON ALREADY SWIRLING TWO-PHASE FLOW IS LESS EFFECTIVE.
