ONE MORE FAMILY OF SUPERCONDUCTORS.
Type of article: Article
Summary
THE NEW FAMILY OF SUPERCONDUCTORS HAS THE CHEMICAL FORMULA PB(2)/SR(2)/A/CU(3)/O(8+), WHERE A CAN BE EITHER ONE OF THE RARE EARTH YTTRIUM, LANTHANUM, PRASEODYMIUM, NEODYMIUM, SAMARIUM, EUROPIUM, GADOLINIUM, DYSPROSIUM, HOLMIUM, THULIUM, YTTERBIUM AND LUTETIUM OR A MIXTURE OF ONE OF THESE RARE EARTHS WITH STRONTIUM OR CALCIUM. THE HIGHEST CRITICAL TEMPERATURE ACHIEVED IN THIS FAMILY IS 68 K, WITH THE MATERIAL CONTAINING THE MIXTURE Y(0.5)/CA(0.5). THESE NEW MATERIALS ARE PREPARED FROM A COPPER-OXYGEN-STRONTIUM-RARE EARTH MIXTURE THAT REACTS THEN WITH LEAD OXIDE AT ABOUT 1,173 K (900 DEG C).
