Summary

A STRUCTURAL PHASE TRANSITION (PT) FROM THE TETRAGONAL TO THE ORTHORHOMBIC PHASE PRECEDING APPEARANCE OF SUPERCONDUCTIVITY IN THE COMPOUND SAMPLES HAS BEEN FOUND. THE PT IS SIMILAR TO THE SECOND ORDER AND SEEMS TO BE DUE TO THE COOPERATIVE JAHN-TELLER EFFECT. THE CHARACTERISTIC PT TEMPERATURES ARE REFLECTED BY KINKS OF THE TEMPERATURE DEPENDENCE OF THE ELECTRIC RESISTIVITY.
