Summary

Based on the energy conservation and the mass balance, a mathematical simulation for the transient heat exchange of a shell and tube heat exchanger is established, and a model for optimization of the heat exchanger design is proposed in which the objective function is the total entropy generation rate, with consideration given to both heat transfer and flow resistance. The results of the optimization on the structure size and the operating parameters are searched for the shell and tube heat exchanger.
