Optimization of loop temperatures in water-loop heat pump systems.

Author(s) : PIETSCH J. A.

Summary

Water-loop heat pump (WLHP) systems typically operate with loop water temperatures approaching 32 deg C when cooling loads dominate. Loop water temperatures are maintained below that level by rejecting excess heat with a cooling tower. When heating dominates, loop water temperatures typically approach 16 deg C, and they are maintained above that level by a boiler input. Recommendations for loop water temperatures that minimize system energy consumption are developed.
