Outline of Japan's energy efficiency technology strategy.

Author(s) : MUNAKATA T.

Summary

Energy efficiency technology is the most effective technology for reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. In this paper, an overview of Japan's 2009 Energy Conservation Technology Strategy, with a special focus on thermal energy related technologies, is described. The strategy was derived from Japan's New National Energy Strategy, which calls for a minimum 30% improvement of final energy consumption efficiency by 2030, and Cool Earth 50, which is aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions at least 50% by 2050. The main target date for the Energy Conservation Technology Strategy is 2030. In addition, projects being conducted by NEDO's Energy Conservation Technology Development Department are described herein.
