Overview on controlled atmosphere transportation in containers.

Author(s) : WILD Y.

Summary

The different controlled-atmosphere systems for container application show a wide range of different approaches. These relate to the technical equipment of the containers as well as the price. They range from the simple TransFresh Tectrol system, which needs an initial atmosphere filling after loading, to Freshtainer's sophisticated INTAC IV system, which offers almost all opportunities for atmosphere control. All in all, it can be found that prices for well equipped controlled-atmosphere systems are still too high to be accepted on the market. But due to decreasing prices for stand-alone controlled-atmosphere containers, it is expected that more of these units will get into operation within the next future.
