Parameters of cold resistance in eggs of three species of grasshoppers from inner Mongolia.
Author(s) : BLOCK W., HONG-CHANG L., WORLAND R.
Type of article: Article
Summary
Mean supercooling points of eggs varied little between species and ranged from -22.8 to -25.9 deg C although individual eggs had supercooling points of between -30.5 and -35 deg C. The overwintering survival strategy of such eggs may be based on an increased capacity for supercooling enhanced by natural dehydration in their soil surface habitat.
