Summary
This case study has illustrated the process by which a natural gas engine-driven chiller can be selected for peak shaving duty. By operating the gas-engine chiller as a peak shaver, large reductions in electric demand charges can be achieved with relatively few annual operating hours. All seven gas-engine models had a payback period of between 3.6 and 5.5 years based on current utility rates and capital cost data.
