Percutaneous freezing: new technology for managing prostate cancer.

Author(s) : ONIK G.

Type of article: Periodical article

Summary

This new technology has evolved following the success of earlier open transperineal prostate cryoablation and is made possible by new developments such as transrectal ultrasonography and a new generation of cryosurgical equipment. The procedure is described and illustrated in detail and the technical points to obtain optimal freezing results and long term success rates are discussed. The advantages are detailed, but improvements are still needed in the procedure to give reproducible results from all surgeons. G.R.S.
