Summary

A novel direct expansion solar assisted ejectorexpansion enhanced heat pump cycle (DX-SEEHP) for heat pump drying applications is proposed. A thermodynamic analysis model of the cycle is established and the performance of DX-SEEHP and conventional ejector expansion heat pump system (EEHP) is comprehensively analysed. Compared to the EHP, the research shows that the DX-SEHP with R134a refrigerant has a 23.64%-39.82% increase in heating performance COPh and 32.79%-33.96% increase in volumetric heating capacity for the given condensing temperature range (Tc from 60 ℃ to 80 ℃ ). Finally, the cycle performance of five low-GWP (GWP<1000) alternative refrigerants (R1234yf, R1234ze(E) and R1233zd(E)) are presented and compared with
R134a. Among them, R1234yf shows excellent thermal performance with the highest COPh 5.40 and high Qcv 4691.11 kJ·m-3, being the best alternative refrigerant to R134a.
