Performance and heat transfer of hydrocarbon refrigerants and their mixtures in a heat pump system.

Summary

Performance and heat transfer characteristics of a heat pump system filled with hydrocarbon refrigerants are experimentally investigated. Single component hydrocarbon refrigerants and binary mixtures are considered as working fluids. Performance of each refrigerant is obtained at several temperature levels of secondary heat transfer fluids for a range of compressor speed. Cooling-heating capacity and coefficient of performance are obtained as test results. Heat transfer characteristics of selected refrigerants are achieved from overall conductance measurement. Average heat transfer coefficients at different mass fluxes are shown. Experimental results show that some hydrocarbon refrigerants have better characteristics than HCFC-22.
