Performance characteristics of compressors working with carbon dioxide.

Author(s) : YANAGISAWA T., FUKUTA M., OGI Y., et al.

Summary

Performance characteristics of the CO2 compressor are analyzed theoretically by using a mathematical model of refrigerant compressors and compared with those of the conventional HFC-134a compressor. The influence of top clearance volume on the volumetric efficiency for the CO2 compressor is about one-third that for the HFC-134a compressor. The influence of leakage loss and heating loss on the CO2 compressor efficiency is almost equivalent, though the pressure difference and the heat transfer coefficient are much larger. When the valve flow area is rather small, the CO2 compressor becomes less efficient than the HFC-134a compressor because of the increased flow resistance.
