PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF COUPLED RECIPROCATING OPEN COMPRESSOR AND VARIABLE VELOCITY ELECTRIC MOTOR.

Author(s) : SCALABRIN G., BIANCO G.

Summary

THE CONTINUOUS VELOCITY MODULATION OF AN OPEN RECIPROCATING COMPRESSOR ALLOWS TO RAISE THE COP WITHDECREASING VELOCITY. AT THE SAME TIME A VARIABLE VELOCITY ELECTRICAL MOTOR IS LESS EFFICIENT AT LOWER VELOCITY. THE THERMODYNAMIC AND THE ELECTRICAL EFFICIENCIES, RESPECTIVELY OF THE COMPRESSOR AND OF THE MOTOR, HAVE BEEN EVALUATED SEPARATELY AND THE OVERALL EFFICIENCY OF THE SYSTEM IS REPORTED FOR SEVERAL COUPLES OF SUCTION AND DISCHARGE PRESSURE, IE SATURATION TEMPERATURES, AT VARYING VELOCITY. A MAXIMUM OF EFFECTIVENESS IS ALWAYS PRESENT AT AN INTERMEDIATE VALUE OF THE VELOCITY RANGE.
