Scroll compressor design optimization and implementation with variable speed.

Author(s) : CHANG Y. C., KUO C. S.

Summary

A variable-speed scroll-type compressor (STC) was developed with the optimization approach. Three types of variable-speed motors that are driven by an inverter-fed controller have been used with the same scroll mechanism to implement the prototypes. The motor type includes a three-phase AC induction motor, a brushless DC motor with surface permanent magnet and the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM), respectively. Meanwhile, the performance comparisons between these three types of variable-speed STC and one family of constant speed STC have been observed. The best result is the STC used with the IPMSM, which presents an increase of the COP(el) by 5.02-11.85%.
