Performance evaluations of hydrocarbon refrigerant in a frost-free refrigerator-freezer.

Summary

The performance of hydrocarbon refrigerant as an alternative for R12 has been evaluated in a household no-frost refrigerator-freezer. A theoretical analysis was performed by using the thermodynamic properties based on NIST REFPROP. A series of no load pull down test and energy consumption test were carried out at ambient temperature of 30 deg C and relative humidity of 75% (Korean standards). For R600a tests, compressor with an increased displacement was used to meet the volumetric capacity of R12 system. The theoretical and experimental results of R600a system were compared with those of R12 system.
