Summary

A phenomenal growth is observed in refrigeration and air-conditioning industry over the last decade. In this context it has been essential and desirable to operate the system at higher energy efficiency level. Energy efficiency of a refrigeration air-conditioning system is greatly influenced by its condenser pressure. A novel system is developed to improve the window air conditioner system performance incorporating indirect evaporative cooling where evaporator condensate is utilised to enhance the condenser cooling. Experiments were carried out under various operating conditions and system performance was measured. It is observed that cooling capacity is increased by 2.6% and power consumption reduced by 12.1% as a result coefficient of performance enhanced by 14.8%.
