Summary

An experimental study was carried out to investigate the performance of a heat pump type air conditioner using R410a and fin-tube heat exchanger under frosting conditions. The system performances were determined with an air-enthalpy test system under the test condition of the air temperature being -5°C, the relative humidity being 60-95% and the evaporating temperature being -7/7°C, while the average frost thickness was determined by photomicrography. It is shown that the frosting rate and frost thickness are of different influences on the refrigerating capacity, evaporating temperature, refrigerant pressure drop and heat transfer efficiency of the refrigerating system. The decaying-degree of running performance changes obviously from early frosting stage to final frosting stage. The frosting rate reaches the largest at 0/4°C with the relative humidity over 80%.
