Summary

The objective of this study is to predict the performance of a new absorption refrigeration cycle using a separable ionic liquid. The cycle incorporates a reverse osmosis process to transfer water from the absorption working fluid, which is a solution of solid salt, to the ionic liquid. The ionic liquid of [P4444][CF3COO] has a particular characteristic of separating water when heated over 55 degC. The cycle can be driven by such a low grade heat even though pumping power is required to achieve high pressure to operate the reverse osmosis process. The cycle simulation revealed that the COP would be 0.6 and the pressure requirement would be
14MPa with the absorption working fluid of CaBr2.
