Performance of aqua-ammonia refrigeration unit powered with compound parabolic solar collector.

Summary

Compound parabolic concentrator (CPC) was chosen for solar energy collection, aqua-ammonia absorption system for refrigeration, and glycerol as heat absorbing fluid. The results proved that a CPC collector of an aperture area 4 m2 is sufficient to drive a normal size household refrigerator. An evaporator temperature of -10 deg C can be achieved for a period of 5 hours per day without auxiliary heating. For the rest of day small electric heater within the storage tank is used.
