Performance of vane compressor for CO2 cycle.

Author(s) : FUKUTA M., RADERMACHER R., LINDSAY D., et al.

Summary

The compression characteristics such as pressure and temperature in a compression chamber are analyzed and volumetric efficiency and indicated efficiency of the compressor are estimated. Dynamics of the compressor are also analyzed in order to examine forces acting on the vane. The influence of basic design parameters on the performance is discussed and loss analysis is performed. Leakage loss is the dominant factor in the performance of the vane compressor and clearance height is a critical design parameter. Advanced design such as a two-stage vane compressor and also a compressor-expander combination are examined. These machines have good potential for the CO2 cycle and their performances are acceptable even with clearances of the same magnitude.
