Summary
THE THERMO-EMF OF GERMANIUM SPECIMENS WITH A SURFACE POSSESSING METALLIC CONDUCTIVITY IS MEASURED BETWEEN 0.4 AND 20 K. THE THERMO-EMF OF THE CONDUCTING LAYER IS SEPARATED OUT. IT IS FOUND TO BE ANOMALOUSLY LARGE AND IS DUE TO DRAG OF THE SURFACE CHARGES BY PHONONS OF THE WHOLE SPECIMEN.
