Physical and neural network models of a silica-gel desiccant wheel.

Summary

Solid desiccant wheels are useful in cooling cycles when input to the system is thermal energy instead of electricity. The wheel works as a heat and mass (enthalpy) exchanger. Predicting the steady-state performance of a desiccant wheel can be achieved by solving a set of nonlinear differential equations governing the heat and mass transfer processes. The paper presents methods allowing the prediction of desiccant wheel performances and their respective accuracies.
